What can others do to support your projects/work in these tough times?

Ask a Biologist Monday 8/5/25

Answers from Biologists:

  • Purchase a hunting/fishing license, even if you don’t use it

  • Don’t spread negative rhetoric about “other” fed employees. We all get lumped in together.

  • Be curious about what we do. You can get a better idea of our work just by asking questions.

  • Write your representatives, especially those on appropriations committees.

  • Help spread the word. Tell others about the important work federal employees do.

  • Educate people in your area. Even if it’s just asking them not to feed wildlife.

  • Help keep the storm drains in front of your house clean and clear of debris and trash.

  • Keep your cats indoors.

  • Call your representatives about the revisions to the MMPA.

  • Model good outdoor behavior: stay on trails, pack it out, be kind to others, etc.

  • No politics while we’re working. It’s awkward/uncomfortable and we usually can’t say anything anyway.

  • Plant native plants. Tell your friends to do this too.

  • Civic engagement, in voting or replying to comment periods, etc.

  • Understand that we don’t all work for the Forest Service.

  • Understand how basic natural resource management is divided.
